Opening of a new outpatient pharmacy – University Hospital of Milton Keynes

The Trust has opened a brand new outpatient pharmacy, located in the link between our main entrance and the outpatient department.

The new pharmacy will initially dispense outpatient prescriptions and hospital FP10s (FP10(HP)s). Following their outpatient appointment, patients will be able to bring their prescription which will be clinically reviewed by one of our qualified pharmacists, who will be able to provide further advice and guidance on their medications before dispensing them.

The new facility was designed to improve the patient experience by reducing wait times, improving patient accessibility to their medications and providing expert advice to patients on the ongoing management of their medications.

Our outpatient pharmacy is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and will be staffed by a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Although initially the pharmacy can only dispense outpatient prescriptions, the team has several plans to expand the service over the next few months. Some of these plans include:

  • The sale of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, for example paracetamol, ibuprofen and advice on managing minor illnesses
  • Initiatives to promote healthy lifestyles for staff to support the Trust’s health and wellbeing programme.

Patients who have FP10 prescriptions issued by a GP will still need to take them to a community pharmacy.
