Lee Health Announces First Pediatric Geneticist in Southwest Florida

Dr. Jeffrey Innis joins Lee Health

July 15, 2022 — Lee Health is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Innis is the health system’s newest Pediatric Genetics Specialist. Dr. Innis has over 35 years of experience in medical and human molecular genetics and is the region’s premier pediatric geneticist.

Dr. Innis is board certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. In his role, Dr. Innis assesses and manages genetic diseases, birth defects and chromosomal disorders in pediatric patients. It also identifies patterns of inheritance and reproductive risks for patients and their families. Dr. Innis will be based at Lee Physician Group Pediatrics – Coconut Point and Golisano Children’s Hospital in Southwest Florida.

Prior to joining Lee Health, Dr. Innis held several concurrent positions at the University of Michigan, including Division Chief of Pediatric Genetics, Metabolism, and Genomic Medicine, Director of ABMGG Programs at the University of Michigan , Founder and Medical Director of Michigan Medical Genetics Laboratories, Medical Director of the Genetic Counseling Program in the Department of Human Genetics, and Professor of Human Genetics and Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases.

Dr. Innis is from Fort Myers and graduated from Fort Myers High School. He received his MD and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida.
