Youth worker program costs and salaries covered for eight weeks
December 16, 2021 – CareerSource Broward (CSBD) is actively recruiting Broward County employers to participate in its Youth Summer Employment Program (SYEP) 2022. Companies may be assigned a young adult to FREE OF CHARGE – savings of almost $ 3,500 per youth hired – thanks to the Broward County Children’s Services Board and additional funders. Applications for youth leaders were opened on December 13, 2021 and will remain open until February 18, 2022.
Participating employers will have the opportunity to increase workplace productivity with an extra pair of hands and invest in the community by positively influencing the future Broward County workforce. Economically disadvantaged youth between the ages of 16 and 18 will earn a salary of $ 10.00 per hour and be able to work up to 30 hours per week over a period eight week period from June to August. Each youth’s salary, workers’ compensation insurance and all program costs are funded by the program.
“Studies show summer jobs have long been a way for young people to enter the workforce, start earning a salary and begin to understand what it means to make a living in the world of work.” said Carol Hylton, CEO of CareerSource Broward. “It’s a great first step in becoming a full-time employee and also in learning money management. We strongly encourage employers to participate and be part of the training of our future workforce.
SYEP has been offering work experience to young people in the region for over 16 years. During the 2021 program, SYEP placed more than 860 Broward County youth in local private and non-profit businesses and in government and municipal offices. With job sites that span a variety of industries, the program creates opportunities for young employees to work in industries that match their career interests.
“The Broward County Children’s Services Board is proud to once again be the primary funder of the Youth Summer Employment Program (SYEP), which is well managed by CareerSource Broward.” said Cindy Arenberg Seltzer, president and CEO of the Broward County Children’s Services Board. “SYEP is an important public-private partnership that offers low-income youth the opportunity to acquire the soft skills that employers want. By giving young people the opportunity to learn on the job at free or low cost to the business, participating businesses are contributing to the growth of their future workforce.
